Lift Off

Thanks to all the hard work and support of the Communikey community and all of the contributors to the Communikey Kickstarter we are now able to continue on with making the documentary film come alive!

2 weeks ago we purchased a dedicated hard drive which will be able to hold all of the 50+ hours of footage we have compiled thus far, and will give us the opportunity to conduct and capture several more interviews which are key to completing the film. 

Additionally, we now have a small group of dedicated individuals who will be working in partnership with me on this project. Ryan Simpson, Erica Lindberg, Justin Trammel and Chad Wallace are a talented group of individuals who will hold positions as art directors, editors, and content managers which will be invaluable in keeping us organized and on task in the weeks and months ahead as we delve into all aspects of post-production. 

In the coming weeks and months I will be updating this blog periodically to keep the community updated on where we are at with post-production. It is my hope that maintaining a consistent online/offline relationship with the community through mediums such as this will serve to fill in the blanks for those who are interested in how the project is coming along. 

I intend to not only share the particulars in where we are at with this production, but to also use this as a journal of sorts, where I may share the struggles as well as the success stories in our attempts to accurately, honestly (and entertainingly? ) portray the story of how the communikey festival and organization has come to be as well as where we envision it heading.

KICKSTARTER FOR DOCUMENTARY FILM IS LIVE!!!

The CMKY documentary will function as a living tool kit for creative communities, beginning with 5 episodes, which explore how to collaborate and co create in a dynamic and changing world. Communikey supports this documentary in an effort to facilitate the emergence of sub cultures and DIY organizations both locally and globally. The primary goal of the documentary is to understand: What is presently unfolding in the world of forward thinking arts and sustainability. What are the implications of local and international communities working together implementing social, cultural and ecological innovation at a grassroots level? What new possibilities and opportunities are unleashed in these creative spaces? And finally, how might these new disciplined, interactive and immersive community environments, which focus on participative group collaboration; open up new spaces of social imagination that will allow us to re-evaluate our collective values and navigate the world as more effective and conscious leaders of today.

pranaphoto: For those of you who do not know I am in the midst of my biggest project to date, a short film- documentary on the Communikey music festival and organization (check it out @ www.communikey.us). It has been an incredible learning experience thus far and have had a great amount of support up to this point. I will continue to post and update about the project as I go along.  I feel like this is an extremely important story to tell, not only because many of these people are my friends and an incredible talented group of diverse creatives but because this group of people continue to inspire me and others to participate in the active creation of a new and better world. This organization’s passion for the intersection of music, technology, sustainability, design and cultural exchange of ideas is fueled by their love of participating in the creative process. It is in the skillful means they use to achieve the opening of these new interstitial spaces, where together, those fortunate enough to co-create this experience can explore living in and practicing life outside the socially constructed boundaries of what can and cannot be done.  (by Scott Kaplan)
